Teen Leaders Awarded!

On May 14th, 2008 over one hundred supporters joined staff and volunteers to celebrate REACH's work and recognize the efforts of local teens to prevent dating abuse.

The Ruth and Virginia Bigwood Voice for Justice Awards honored youth who are working to educate their communities about dating abuse. Shawsheen Technical High School staff member, Christine Tobin, along with students Brittany Haley and Sarah DeCelles, accepted the Ruth Bigwood Award on behalf of their Teen Dating Violence Group.

Students in the group learn about healthy relationships and support systems, bringing their knowledge to peers and other community members. Over the past five years the group has organized creative ways to support children in REACH's shelter program, including hosting a fashion show and ice cream socials.

The organizers of the Town of Needham's first annual "Take Back the Night" were presented with the Virginia Bigwood Award, recognizing thier efforts to raise awareness and support survivors. The event included speakers from REACH and Casa Myrna Vasquez, a march through the town center, and an opportunity for survivors to share their stories.
